Iran has conducted a successful large-scale missile and drone attack against Israel, the Revolutionary Guard Corps has said in a statement published by IRNA news agency. The Islamic Republic’s military managed to hit and destroy “important military targets,” it added without providing further details.

The strikes were a response to what Tehran called “numerous crimes” committed by West Jerusalem, including an alleged Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus. The attack, which took place on April 1, killed seven officers of the IRGC’s Quds Force, including two generals.

The Islamic Republic’s attack involved more than 100 drones, Israeli and Western media reported. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it tracked incoming unmanned aerial vehicles and intercepted them mid-air, with help from allied forces.

Iranian media published several short clips on social media purportedly showing the moments the missiles hit their targets in Israel. One was said to be from a settlement in the Negev desert in the southern part of the country.

In a statement, the IRGC warned the US that any support it provides to Israel that harms Iran’s interests would be met with a “decisive response.” Tehran considers Washington “responsible for the evil actions” of West Jerusalem, the statement added. Iran also warned its neighbors against assisting the US or Israel in potentially attacking the Islamic Republic.

In the wake of the Iranian strikes, Israeli media reported that the government is planning a massive retaliation. TV Channel 12 cited a senior Israeli official as saying that an “unprecedented response” to the attack is in the works. Israel’s culture and sports minister, Miki Zohar, also stated that West Jerusalem “received broad international legitimacy tonight to strike Iran with unprecedented force.”

Report: Iran’s New Hypersonic Missiles Punched Thru Jewish Air Defenses ‘Effortlessly’ (Unconfirmed)

At least 7 hypersonic missiles launched from Iran in retaliation for Israeli aggression hit Nevatim Airbase pic.twitter.com/SGFzDslvFD— Press TV 🔻 (@PressTV) April 14, 2024

IRGC chief Hossein Salami said Sunday that the ‘Operation True Promise’ missile and drone barrage against Israel was “more successful than expected,” with projectiles managing to pierce Israel’s powerful multilayered air defense system. The IDF says it intercepted “99 percent” of incoming Iranian projectiles.

Iran may have fired its brand new Fattah 2 hypersonic missile at targets inside Israel during Saturday’s overnight attack on Israeli military facilities, Dr. Ali Hamie, a Lebanese academic and national security expert, told Sputnik Arabic on Sunday.

“Iran launched hundreds of Shahid series drones and Fattah 2 hypersonic cruise missiles into Israel, which the Israeli Iron Dome air defense system was incapable of intercepting,” Hamie said.

The Lebanese expert suggested that Israel’s “foolish” decision to target the Iranian Embassy compound in Damascus on April 1 – which triggered the Iranian retaliation Saturday night, could culminate in combined attacks against the Jewish State from Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen, which Tel Aviv would have difficulty withstanding.

“If the United States intervenes, the war may not be limited to the region, but will expand beyond it,” Hamie warned, pointing to the presence of not only Iranian but Russian forces in Syria on a counterterrorism mission.

Iranian missiles in the skies over the occupied Palestinian territories

All the hypersonic missiles used in Iran’s punitive strikes against Israel have hit their targets after evading the regime’s air defense systems, Press TV reports.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched extensive missile and drone strikes late Saturday night on the occupied territories, marking the first time the Islamic Republic employed such weapons against real targets.

The series of retaliatory strikes, dubbed Operation True Promise, inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories.

Sources informed Press TV that the Israeli regime and its supporters failed to intercept any of the hypersonic missiles fired by Iran.

Iran is among few countries that posses the technology to produce hypersonic missiles which can travel at stunning speeds and hit their targets with great precision.

Iran’s hypersonic missiles are highly maneuverable, enabling them to have an unpredictable flight path in order to confuse enemy’s missile shields.

The chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, said on Sunday that Iran hit a large intelligence base in the occupied lands and Israel’s Nevatim Airbase, from where an F-35 jet took off to target Iran’s diplomatic premises in Damascus.

He added that the strikes “reached its goals” as the regime’s so-called Iron Dome system failed to deal with the Iranian missiles and drones properly.

The IRGC’s operation was carried out in retaliation for a missile attack by Israel on Iran’s diplomatic premises in the Syrian capital of Damascus earlier in April.

Era of strategic patience ‘over’; Israel’s war between wars defeated: Raeisi’s deputy

An Iranian official says the IRGC’s retaliatory operation on the occupied territories means that the era of strategic patience is over.

The Israeli attack on Iran’s diplomatic facilities in Syria resulted in the martyrdom of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers.

The terrorist attack drew categorical condemnation from senior Iranian political and military leaders, who vowed “definitive revenge.”

During a speech in Tehran on Wednesday after leading the Eid al-Fitr prayers, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the Israeli regime “must be punished and will be punished” for its deadly strike on the Iranian diplomatic premises.

The Leader added, “The evil Zionist regime committed another mistake …  and that was the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria. The consulate and diplomatic missions in any country are considered to be the territory of that country. When they attack our consulate, it means they have attacked our soil.”
