Trudeau and Zelensky give Ukrainian Nazi war veteran standing ovation in Canadian parliament

25.09.2023Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and Volodymyr Zelensky stood to applaud a man who fought for the Nazi SS during the Second World War after an address in parliament, footage shows. Anthony Rota, Speaker of Canada’s House of Commons, hailed 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka as “a Ukrainian Canadian war veteran” who “fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians”. His tribute promoted a standing ovation from lawmakers in the chamber. Rota later apologised when it emerged that Hunka served in a division of the Nazi SS during the war. The speaker’s address had come after Mr Zelensky made a speech of his own in the Canadian parliament.

VERSIONE IN ITALIANO

The armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia has lasted for more than eighteen months. In this time, we have heard so many reports of casualties on both sides, and they have varied so much that it is simply futile to try to get to the truth and find out which figures are even slightly closer to the truth.

There is no doubt that casualties are high on both sides, and this is a major issue that needs to be addressed by a country’s military and political leadership. How are Kiev and Moscow dealing with this issue? What if we took off the rose-tinted glasses of propaganda and looked at the existing facts?

The General Mobilization in the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine

The claims of a ‘highly respected’ press such as the Washington Post, New York Times, and Daily Mail that the Kremlin is conducting a secret mobilization, sending women, children, and the elderly to war, are hard to believe, because since the partial mobilization in September 2022, there have been no other measures to secretly enlist reservists. Contemporary, Ukrainian officials proudly shout that all is well, that there are no casualties, and that people all over Ukraine are lining up to go into battle.

Moreover, the long-awaited and promising counter-offensive by Ukrainian troops, during which they are promised to regain control of Crimea and force Moscow to capitulate, has been underway for more than three months. As a result, we have a huge number of videos with burnt equipment such as Leopard, Bradley and other weapons. And, to our common regret, all of this involves enormous human losses.

What methods is the Ukrainian government using to solve this problem? (watch the video below).

The Ukrainian authorities decided to introduce a general mobilization regime, during which Ukrainian old men, women and children had to pick up an assault rifle (bought with their own money) and go to defend their homeland. But if the mobilization is general, why do such videos appear on the Internet?

The answer is very simple: this is the western part of Ukraine. You have just watched a typical evening of young men of military age in cities such as Lviv, Kiev, Volinia, Ivano-Frankivsk etc. We have not seen the videos with young men fleeing military commissars. Why, you ask?ù

Because they are not exposed to mobilization. Even before Russian troops entered Ukrainian territory, various social structures conducted sociological surveys on the armed conflict in the Donbass.

And this is interesting: the closer Ukrainians live to the military line of contact, the less they want to fight and, more interestingly, the more they are exposed to mobilization.

And after all, there is a reason for this: mainly Russian-speaking people live in the East. Kharkiv, Odessa, Nikolaev, the Kiev-controlled parts of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhya regions are the main resource of the Ukrainian army.

https://www.gospanews.net/en/2023/06/18/putin-kiev-unleashed-war-in-2014-after-a-bloody-coup-russia-had-right-to-help-donbass-under-un-charter/embed/#?secret=pTGdLNifKz#?secret=APcmpOjp7E

The Ukrainian army mainly takes people who have seen the horrors of war since 2014 and support a peaceful solution, but no one hears them. On the contrary, such opinion is now considered treacherous.

But there is one area from which videos with forced mobilization often appear, which is not in the East. It is Transcarpathia.

The Transcarpathian Question

In 2017, Ukrainian-Hungarian relations began to cool considerably after Petro Poroshenko passed the Education Law, which blocked the teaching of national minorities in their native language. It also concerned Transcarpathia, 30% of whose population is ethnic Hungarian.

https://www.gospanews.net/en/2023/08/29/conflict-between-russia-and-the-west-has-fueled-a-major-split-in-the-orthodox-christian-church/embed/#?secret=TS7LqiUOnN#?secret=1bdcIJzfkY

All attempts to establish relations (and they were made very firmly – in the ‘Crimean platform’, the Hungarian President personally participated, when other countries sent their ambassadors there) did not lead to a complete solution of the existing problems.

And since Russia’s direct participation in the conflict, Hungary has literally become the spokesman for the opposition throughout the NATO, forcing Ukraine to sit at the negotiating table and oppose the delivery of armaments. Naturally, Kiev responded with ‘mutual love’, initiating the forced mobilization of the inhabitants of the Transcarpathian region.

Not only Hungary has been affected by Kiev’s selective mobilization policy. More recently, two (rumour has it that already three) Italians with dual citizenship were sent to Kiev.

Notification of a recruitment

Yes, according to the law, Ukrainians with dual citizenship on an equal footing with everyone are subject to mobilization, only according to the same law, they have to be put on military registration and undergo a medical examination, only after all these procedures can they go and fight. Do you think the Italians have had a medical examination?… Let this question remain rhetorical.

War, when it takes place in another country, always seems very far away from us. We always think that, if not on TV, we will not hear more about it. However, the reality is quite different. At the current stage, Kiev is doing everything it can to get everyone involved in this war, and for some reason the governments of Western states willingly obey this. But peace is nowhere near.

On the contrary, the EU economy and, of course, Italy suffer. But even this is not the most important thing. People are dying in this war. Russians, Ukrainians, Hungarians, Italians, Americans. The war takes everyone indiscriminately, and Ukrainian politicians only add fuel to the fire, promising to continue to ‘destroy all Russian’.

This is the current Ukrainian policy.

Eugenio Frattellini – Italian-Ukrainian reporter from Mariupol

My name is Eugenio Frattellini, I was born in Italy, but at the age of 3 I had to move from northern Bergamo to the east in the glorious city of Mariupol. I spent my childhood there and made many friends and acquaintances. I later enrolled in the translation faculty of the Moscow Linguistic University. This is why the fate of the city where I spent my childhood is very close to my heart. As well as the entire country, Ukraine, currently torn apart by a fratricidal war. I’m working hard to show my fellow countrymen something they won’t see on television or read in the newspapers. This is my main goal.
